Hey, you're in the home improvement zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE! Cooling and Ventilation Systems Category: Evaporative / Swamp Coolers Problem: Cooler has holes. Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):
Solution: Evaporative / swamp coolers, over time, will likely develop holes, relatively big and small, if the rust that develops on it goes untreated. You can repair these holes as a temporary fix--to give you one or two more seasons' worth out of the cooler before total replacement is necessary--in either of two ways: 1) You can apply either epoxy putty or even Bondo to the holes with a putty knife/flexible joint knife so as to seal them, wait for the curing of the epoxy putty/Bondo per the manufacturer's instructions, and then sand the treated holes flat to match the physical scheme of the cooler being repaired; or 2) You can install a cooler pan liner as a layer over the pan with holes. Caution: When dealing with chemicals, such as those found in Bondo or other epoxy putty, make sure you take precautions; read all product manufacturers' instructions. That's what you do to maximize the longevity of your cooler in spite of its developing holes.
